Hey Mitchell, I was a trainee last year. Geissen was one heck of an awesome place. I travelled there numerous time. I wish I could possibly explain what you are going to go through in the next year. It's going to be the best and worst thing you've done (or perhaps somewhere in between?).
My advice is: a) try lots of great German beer. b) go to Berlin c) make friends with a Swiss person d) don't speak English...ever.
